Scope and Contents
The Heber Snell Photograph collection consists of 16 portraits and snapshots of Heber Snell and his colleagues from 1909 until the 1960s. These photographs were donated to Special Collections & Archives in 1971 and 1976 as part of the Heber Snell Manuscript Collection MS 32.

Biographical Note
Dr. Heber Cyrus Snell was born on January 16, 1883 in Spanish Fork to Rufus P. and Ellen C. Snell. He married Hedwig E. Stauffer on September 6, 1905 in the Logan LDS Temple. Hedwig died on June 8, 1945 in Pocatello and he then married Phoebe Linford Rees on June 23, 1947. He died on February 1, 1974 in Logan. At his death he had four living children and seventeen grandchildren.
Dr. Snell served an LDS mission in Chicago and attended Brigham Young University graduating in 1912. He served as principal of the San Luis Academy in Manassa, Colorado and the Big Horn Academy in Cowley, Wyoming and as superintendent of schools in Lovell, Wyoming. Dr. Snell graduated from the University of Utah with the M.S. degree and received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago. He was a teacher of psychology and education at Snow College and the director of the LDS Institute of Religion at Idaho State University. In 1945 he joined the faculty of the Logan LDS Institute of Religion. He was the author of three books: Ancient Israel: Its Story and Meaning, Through the Years, and Gospel References.
