Abstract

The Smithfield Oral History Project contains 37 interviews with residents of Smithfield, Utah. The majority of interviews were conducted by Lawrence Cantwell. William "Robert" Thornley had the items digitized, transcribed, and printed by the Clark and Gladys Thornley Foundation. Transcriptions made possible by a generous grant from the Utah Humanities Council/ Utah State History.

Scope and Contents Series I contains materials related to John Suiter’s early work documenting and photo-graphing the “literary landscapes” of Jack Kerouac in Lowell, Massachusetts, and Mexico. Series II contains materials collected and produced by John Suiter for his book Poets on the Peaks: Gary Snyder, Philip Whalen and Jack Kerouac in the Cascades , published in 2002 by Counterpoint Press. Abstract

The collection is comprised of oral histories of citizens of Providence City, Utah, including transcripts, photographs, fieldnotes, surveys and CD of images and transcription. Interviews conducted by Rachel Gianni (August 2005-October 2006) and Randy Williams and Lisa Duskin-Goede (2008).
